One of outdoor lighting's greatest uses is its ability to add artistic value to landscapes, greatly enhancing them. Achieving this at a place like The Alamo presented a variety of challenges. We wanted to capture the texture and create some subtle shadowing on the front wall. In order to do this, lights would need to be placed in front of the wall. The only problem with that was the flagstone court in front of the building. Well lights with no cowling would shine light in the eyes of onlookers and adding a cowling would create trip hazard. Recessed lights may have solved both those problems, but our beam angle would be limited. So what was the best solution? Asymmetrical In Grades from IlluminFX.
Asymmetrical In Grades have lenses designed to create beam spreads both horizontally and vertically. Though you can see the light, it is not shining back in your eyes as an onlooker. It is shining up onto the wall. With these asymmetrical lights, you can wash a wall from sidewalks, rock gardens, decks, or other surfaces in which conventional floodlights are problematic or obtrusive.
As you can see in these pictures, the asymmetrical in grades beautifully capture the walls of the Alamo with no trip hazard or glare affecting those walking by and enjoying the view. The perfect solution!
